Sophisticated Surround

Mahogany speakeasy with hidden shelving behind movable bookshelves with carved details in rich stain color in Pittsburgh Pa

To complete the atmosphere of a refined winery, a built-in library wall is the perfect added piece. At the former Mary’s Vine located in Rankin, we designed and built a complete built-in surround in their dedicated cigar bar.

Spanning nearly 50 feet long, we completely encased the feature wall in mahogany. Included were six total bookcases and three storage nooks, tied together with ornate carvings to give it aa aged library look. But these bookshelves are more than just a receptacle for hundreds of books, behind them is hidden shelving that acts as a speakeasy for this exclusive area.

Each bookshelf operates on a specialized type of barn door hardware that allows each unit to smoothly and silently slide open. And if that wasn’t deceitful enough, the books aren’t real either. We hand cut each book down to make it appear as a full bookshelf to further hide the speakeasy behind it.

The whole unit was finished in a rich nutmeg stain which gave the unit the perfect dynamic and shiny appearance. With the addition of these refined cases, the cigar bar’s sophistication elevated immensely, creating a serene space where people can enjoy themselves and let the day melt away.
