Lawrenceville Mahogany Doors

Mimicked in Mahogany

The city of Pittsburgh is known for having some architecturally rich neighborhoods, and Lawrenceville is no exception. Our client needed fresh passage doors for his home but wanted to maintain a cohesive style of the historic property.

To do this, we matched the molding profile on the door panels of the existing front door and applied that same trim to the new doors we were providing, and to further incorporate the home’s history, we took inspiration from an existing knoll post, which was a beautifully carved and detailed piece in the main entry way. We decided to pull the fluting pattern with the stepped edge and rosette and mimic that style in the trim surrounding the doors.

Because each room that required a door had a different function, every door had a different configuration. For the interior entry door, we included a tall glass pane in the center of the door with a transom window encasement above it, the interior door was a solid design, and the exterior porch door was a full paneled door with a transom window.

Each door was built pre-hung from solid mahogany, a sturdy and durable wood that also contains a beautiful grain pattern and is great for carving. The overall look of these doors would leave a striking impression on any guest, but the real beauty of this project comes from the close-up details:
